What is the cost per m2 of micro cement application?

The cost of application depends on many factors. As in everything, good work with warranties and quality has its price. The reputation of the brand associated with the renown of a specialist professional is key. It is essential for the applier to be a craftsman with experience and a lot of sensitivity. The cost of application with warranties should be from 60 euros per square metre (excluding tax) for a surface measuring under 50 m2. What does the cost depend on?

The cost per square metre of a micro cement coating depends on several factors, including and in particular, the nature and condition of the surface to which we are going to apply it and the area we need to coat.

Large surface areas perfectly ventilated with no changes in level or corners enable the applier to do the job more easily. The cost will be lower and the price more economical. Stairs are an example of meticulous and, therefore, more costly application. Should it be necessary to treat the support beforehand to prevent and impede rising damp, the job would be more expensive. The use of several colours in small spaces makes a job more expensive: material losses in this case are greater and the work should be done with greater care to protect surfaces already treated from others that are being treated with another pigment.

Is it possible to apply an anti-slip finish to micro cement?

The floor of standard micro cement is not anti-slip compared with other more common floors. It is possible to apply an anti-slip finish to the micro cement coating in order to guarantee a certain class of slipperiness. Micro cement application works are protected with a polyurethane finish into which additives can be incorporated for this purpose.

According to Standard UNE-ENV 12633:2003 regulating slipperiness indices and determining the class that a floor should have in accordance with its use, Class 1 would correspond to the coating of a polyurethane sealed micro cement. Class 2 would correspond in the case of incorporating glass microspheres into the first coat polyurethane. The standard is not applicable in zones of restricted use, such as dwellings, since it would not exceed 10 habitual users. The standard finish is therefore suitable in this case. In order to increase slip resistance (Sr), it is possible to apply textured shot blasted micro cements.

4

Is micro cement waterproof?

The micro cement that is usually applied indoors is not waterproof in and of itself. It is, therefore, essential to apply a sealant as a finish that is going to give it that important characteristic. Depending on the type of sealant and the number of coats applied, a lesser or greater degree of water resistance will be achieved, depending on whether or not the coating is allocated to a damp room of the house.

5

Can micro cement be applied to sinks or baths?

Micro cement can be applied in showers, sinks and baths.

6

What resistance does micro cement have?

Homecret has two continuous coatings, with two resistance grades. The most resistent micro cement, highly transited, is Xtrem micro concrete. Used as flooring, this coating is highly flexible and resistent to compression and abrasion. It is, therefore, the ideal micro cement for commercial premises, offices with a high number of employees, residential building outdoors… Ultimately, in any highly frequented area.

We reserve traditional micro cement, due to its lesser resistance, for the coating of walls or floors of moderate use, such as private dwellings.

7

Can micro cement be applied to a heated floor?

Micro cement is an ideal material for placing to a heated floor, and can be applied with no problem.

To apply micro cement to a heated floor, some basic recommendations must be followed before and after applying micro cement, that Homecret workers are perfectly familiar with. For example, the heat should be turned on by following a certain protocol and schedule before applying the micro cement, and switch on the heating gradually at least 48 hours after application.

8

What is the estimated duration of the works?

Despite the fact that the micro cement application proces is complex due to the number coats it comprises, a good professional is capable of applying up to 50 m2 a day of work, therefore, the renovation time is substantially reduced.

In addition, micro cement can be applied to other materials such as stone or ceramic tiles, metal… therefore, it is not necessary to remove the previous work and no debris is generated.

9

Can micro cement be applied to stairs?

Yes, micro cement can be applied to stairs with no problem at all. It would be a good idea to provide a corner guard that can be internal (incorporated into the base mortar) or external as decoration. If you want to see examples of stairs, you can visit the Indoor micro cement page or visit our showrooms in Madrid.

Micro cement’s versatility is such that it can even be applied to furniture.

How to clean micro cement

Micro cement is maintained by washing with neutral soap and water. It is recommended periodically applying self-shine waxes diluted in water, since they leave an acrylic residue that renews the protective coat of the floor. No machinery is required for this maintenance, since all these products can be applied by rubbing or mopping. The frequency will depend on the use, but it is the same one with which any floor is cleaned.
